Kamala Surayya (born Kamala Madhavikutty Das; née Madhavikutty Nair), born 31 March 1934 in Punnayurkulam, Thrissur, Kerala, was an Indian English and Malayalam writer — author of the controversial autobiography My Story (English 1976; Malayalam Ente Katha 1973); poet, novelist, short-story writer. Padma Vibhushan-nominated Asan World Prize (1985); converted to Islam in 1999 (then Kamala Surayya). She died 31 May 2009 at age 75.
